Good
weather and excellent facilities are always a bonus for any event. Although the
former was free, the latter was not and I hope you felt that the car park charge
was not too excessive for the facilities provided.
The Club considered the area not sufficiently secure to
use electronic punching though as it transpired there was very little
interference with the controls on the day/night. However, self registration,
whilst popular with most competitors, did result in a number of inadequately
completed control cards and/or stubs and some arrivals at the start without
control descriptions. I am sure we are getting out of practice with this type of
event organisation but from a safety point of view, fully completed control
cards and stubs are essential. We need to know precisely who is out on the
course and who has returned or not as the case may be.
Some of you may be aware of an injured competitor on Sunday who required
medical attention. I can report that he did not sustain any broken bones though
he managed to strain some ligaments in a leg as a result of a fall. On behalf of
the competitor and the Club I would like to thank anyone who helped in any way
during and after the accident.
I hope all those who did take part enjoyed their runs and were spurred on
by the reasonably firm terrain and some moonlight!
As always my job was made easier by the assistance of HALO members who
are small in number but big in enthusiasm, expertise and professionalism.
A special ‘thank you’ to Mike and Christine Cope, not only for their
help on the day (and night) but also for their support prior to the event.
Controller’s Comments Brian Ward
With a little guidance Kim produced some good courses for both night and day events. Leaving the night controls out to be used during the day is certainly a time saver, and I do not think it detracts from the nature of the day courses. I am sure night competitors who re-visited the same day controls, did not notice any familiarity, I have certainly not heard any adverse comments to that effect!
As ever, the same band of willing and enthusiastic HALO helpers turned out to make the event work. Thanks to Ken for some very efficient organisation, Kim for his time and effort spent planning – and all that goes with that territory, and finally Mr. Chairman – Mike ( Cope ) for on-the-day ( Sunday ) controlling.
