Like last year, the Poacher Trophy Series started with a very pleasant sunny Spring evening in a very dry Mausoleum Woods. Mark Tyszka provided competitors with two excellent courses, probably the best the Poacher has witnessed----plenty of route choice through the runnable woods and many new features, some courtesy of J.C.B.! The turn -out of 46 runners was the best ever for the first event of the series with some familiar faces in the leading positions particularly on the long course where last year's winner Hull University's Max Guscott showed that he will be the man to beat as he took maximum points. In second place Neil Harvatt, last year's Masters winner had an excellent run but could come under threat from third placed MDOC's Dean Field who won the Blue at Middle Rasen last Sunday. On the short, Grimsby's Lee Smith had his first ever maximum points coming home 5 minutes ahead of Juniors Ben Offler and Eleanor Humphrey. Next week, a new area--Hendale, providing a different challenge.
