The 2004 Poacher Series started for the third year in succession at Mausoleum Woods on a perfect sunny spring evening. A 50+ turnout enjoyed the expertly planned courses provided by Mark Tyszka in a very runnable wood where the straight line route was usually the optimum. All control sites were new with some novel descriptions from the latest IOF handbook published in Keelby, such as World War 2 trench and epicentre (Did the earth move for you?). Results from this first event suggest that there might be some new names on the trophies in 2004. Beverley's Dean Field had an emphatic win on the long course ahead of JK medallist Fiona Forrest and Masters Champion Neil Harvatt. Log competitors were prominent with John Bennett and Steve Bones in the top 7 on the long course along with Andy Furnell's 3rd. on the short which was won by late arrival John Butler attempting to finish before lighting up time. Broughton beckons next week.
