Brompton Dale returned after a lapse of several years, providing many competitors with their best run so far but for some experienced orienteers disqualification was the outcome. Dean Field turned the tables on Paul Beresford by a mere 16 seconds to win the long course at 6 min. kilometre pace. Lincoln's John Bennett returned to form with a good third ahead of supervet challenger Mike Smith who had his best run in the Poacher for some time. A close tussle ensued for the other placings with just seconds separating runners. SuperDoc Paddy Nelligan and Hull's Mike Cope were right up with the pack although UltraVet Mark Tyszka mispunched at No.1. The short course provided a host of surprises. The disqualification of John Butler for mispunching gave a sensational win for Grimsby's John Merriman Whose previous highest place was 11th just 29 seconds adrift in second was Caistor Grammar School's Eleanor Humphrey who was delighted with her run. Newcomer Junior Holly Robinson must be encouraged by her 11th. place. Also enjoying a high placing was Kirmington's William Sowerby not far behind Brocklesby's Henry Rayment. Pillar next week should prove even more runnable- get yourself there for Halo's most enjoyable wood.
