Compared to last week's super fast Pillar Woods, Laughton Forest East was somewhat pedestrian with minutes per kilometre almost doubled. Planner Andy Houlden did a great job in providing routes through the best of the vegetation with the long course having two circuits of the area with a map exchange. As several long course runners were absent big points were available for successful finishers. Many gained their highest points so far in the series, if not since the Poacher started. The short course, however, attracted a big field but this was decimated by almost a third as competitors failed to check control codes. League leader Logger Andy Furnell, certainly benefited as he moved up to first place after card inspection just four seconds ahead of the much improved Junior Eleanor Humphrey. Stickability paid off for some as they completed successfully registering points including newcomers Rachel Beedham and Wendy Melbourne and the Brammers from Lincoln who got the better of rivals the Butlers. Next week Normanby Park will test navigation skills. P.S. William Hill's are not taking any more bets on Neil Harvatt finishing in the medal positions.
