Otby turned out to be one of the best, if not the best Poacher event staged so far. Quality planning from Brian Slater, a superb summer evening, good terrain with a map extension, and on the spot facilities at Mill Farm including ice creams at bargain prices! Long course competitors soon discovered the myth of all Lincolnshire being flat as they toiled up to the first crag control, not that this deterred winner Dean Field who put himself in an unbeatable position in the league table. A strong run from Neil Harvatt in second makes him Masters Champion once again. In third mountain goat Steve Marin found the hilly going to his liking just ahead of Fiona Forrest who returned to form with a fifth place. The Supervets title looks likely to change hands with Mike Smith leading 2003 Champion Brian Slater by one point with others coming up on the rails. Competitors should note that in the event of a tie on total points League position will be on the basis of their highest individual race points (ie no. of 50's, then no. of 49's etc. ) The short course which used a large proportion of the new area, permission for which had been obtained from a very co-poerative local farmer, provided yet another new winner in amateur footballer Lee Smith ahead of another Grimbarian Junior Chris Merriman- a brilliant second with Grasby's Gary Robinson a great third. Kim Powlesland sprinted home in her highest ever 5th place. Next week it is back in the woods for the runnable Swallow Wold- the eastern part of Pillar. Afterwards trophy presentation plus prizes will take place at the Queens Head, North Kelsey Moor- get yourself there- everyone is welcome!
