A record Poacher attendance enjoyed a pleasant evening's competition planned expertly by Lincoln Orienteering Group's John Bennett. Mausoleum Woods is now rivalling Pillar as one of Halo's most runnable pieces of terrain, so the straight line route was usually the optimum. Not too many orienteering courses have a control in a tunnel but the long course included this unusual feature. Log speedster Liam Harrington had an error free run to romp home ahead of Finningley's Neil Harvatt and DVO's Paul Beresford. Both Log Vice Chairman Steve Bones and Halo's Pete Harris recorded their best ever Poacher performances in front of several big names. (Steve Marin's sixth place is subject to a control card check) The short course provided maximum points for Junior Zac Field in front of two ultra vets. Mathew and Ben, also Juniors, ran very well in a large entry. Other Juniors in the top six were accompanied by parents; in fairness to Juniors running on their own those receiving help from adults must in future declare themselves non-competitive. Next week Poacher samples Halliday Hill- completely new for short course runners and partially so for long coursers, the latter should be aware that there are two road crossings needing caution. |
