Recent torrential rainfall briefly abated attracting nearly 50 competitors on a fine but cool evening. The waterlogged forest, knee deep in places, slowed runners particularly in the area adjacent to the start/finish which resembled the trenches of World War 1! A difficult area to plan with many no-go fenced areas, Pete Harris did a fine job with many new control sites. He wishes to thank Mark Tyszka and the juniors who kindly collected in controls at the end. Juniors again dominated the Short Course with Zac Field scoring maximum points ahead of Harworth's Ben Beresford who could yet make a late challenge for the Junior Trophy. LOG's Liam Harrington made it 3 wins on the Long Course to challenge Vet Neil Harvatt who with 4 wins is still on course to take the Lincolnshire Poacher Trophy for the first time. Grimsby's Lee Smith winner of the Short Course last year was delighted with his fourth place ahead of seasoned orienteers including Land Economist Andy Houlden who was an excellent sixth.Paddy Neligan cemented his position as favourite for the SuperVets category with a solid eighth place. Next week Poacher returns to the second biggest forest in Lincolnshire - Willingham. Please follow signs to the forest buildings in the middle of the wood, not the picnic area.
