Middle Rasen Wood with its proliferation of fenced areas (some appearing within the last fortnight), has been an increasingly difficult area to plan courses. So Vernon Davis must be congratulated on utilising the best parts to full advantage. His task was not helped by the January gales that decimated the nice runnable area at the south end of the wood. The leading places on both courses followed a similar pattern to previous weeks with the Field family scoring maximum points. Jake Field achieved his highest Poacher placing yet with a second place. On the Long course Grimsby Young Gun Lee Smith held off the Flying Fireman from Beverley, Steve Marin, with a great third place. Logger John Bennett scored useful points with a strong seventh spot. Also accounting for some 'big names' was Halo Chairman Ken Hutson - a mere shadow of his former self with his new training regime! Next week we start from a new carpark near some fishing ponds - courtesy of the owners of the Farm Leisure Park, please don't disturb the anglers. NB If anyone would like to plan a Poacher event in 2008 who has not already done one previously, please see me (Pete Kullich). It will give some respite to the people who have given you orienteering on a Wednesday for the last ten years. Help and advice is always on hand.
