Although used many times over the 10 years of the Poacher, Primrose Warren continues to provide a good evening's orienteering. For this, competitors are indebted to planner Neil Harvatt who produced 2 good courses with control sites not previously used. After 7 events the leading contenders for Poacher Trophies are very apparent in 5 of the 6 categories with the Field family continuing their good form. Next week competitors who have completed all the events so far, will be able to drop their weakest score as it is the 7 best to count, so the league tables could well alter. The outstanding performance on the Short Course was achieved by Grasby's Harriet Gillman who in fourth, was the leading lady ahead of North Bank's Charlotte Ward, with Caistor's Jack Robinson well up in 7th. Warming up for his kite retrieval duties next week at Normanby Park, Mike Smith put in his strongest showing so far to make the Top Ten on the Long Course. Thanks to the 2 people who responded to my plea for new planners for Poacher 2008; please come forward if you can plan an event next year, as we always welcome new people.
