Come and have a go at orienteering

The Beverley Club Night has run regularly from September 2009 to October 2018.  Many successful orienteers have passed through its 'door' during that time, including a number of future international orienteers as well as a good number of family members.  Unfortunately the sessions are now suspended due to a shortage of local coaches.  Anyone who is qualified or would like to gain coaching qualifications should contact the HALO coaching officer, Brian Slater, on bslatercleeyahoo.com

New members of all ages and abilities are always welcome and a regular attendance is not required, just turn up when you are able.   New members should contact Neil before attending to ensure the event is running that evening.  (Contact Neil for further information (neilhalo-orienteering.org.uk))

HALO has established a regular weekly orienteering Club Night in Beverley in the East Riding of Yorkshire at the Girls Gymnasium in the Longcroft Upper School, Burton Road, every Monday evening (but see notice above), during term-time from 6.30 to 8:00 pm, individuals £3 (members £2), juniors £1, families £5 max.   First week is free, just turn up and see if you like it.  Contact Neil at neilhalo-orienteering.org.uk for further information.  New members always welcome.

The club nights, which are led by qualified British Orienteering coaches, are suitable for all ages, abilities and fitness levels and include the following activities:

  • Group runs
  • Circuit training
  • Indoor and outdoor orienteering exercises
  • Problem solving activities

Orienteering is now a major sport in education meeting the developmental needs, both physical and mental, of pupils. It is an important vehicle for delivering the Outdoor Adventurous Activity within the English National PE Curriculum as well as providing the opportunity for cross curricular links with Maths, Geography and Citizenship Studies. Likewise, it offers an exciting multi-dimensional extracurricular activity which is one of the reasons for setting up the club nights.

Orienteering can take place anywhere from remote forest and countryside to urban parks and school playgrounds. It is  great sport for runners, joggers and walkers who want to improve their navigation skills or for anyone who loves the outdoors. Orienteering - the adventure sport for all.

As well as the club nights HALO organises regular orienteering events with courses suitable for beginners throughout the year on local areas, generally on a Saturday but occasionally on a Sunday.  These are shown on the events page of the website.
